Breaking the Curse
Baseball players and fans are known for being superstitious. From rally caps to lucky socks, some believe their behavior can influence the outcome of a game. One of the most famous examples is the Curse of the Billy Goat. In 1945, a Chicago Cubs fan was asked to leave Wrigley Field because his pet goat was bothering other spectators. As the story goes, he placed a curse on the Cubs, vowing they’d never win another World Series. For 71 long years, fans believed the team was haunted by that curse—until their historic victory in 2016.
Just like sports teams, people often believe they’re stuck under their own kind of curse—generational patterns of anger, addiction, dishonesty, or dysfunction. Maybe your family has been known for a short temper, overspending, or avoiding the truth. These cycles can feel impossible to break.
But here’s the truth: in Christ, the curse is broken.
Jesus doesn’t just offer us forgiveness—He offers us freedom. Through Him, we are made new. We don’t have to repeat the patterns of our past or continue the bad habits of our earthly families. We’ve been adopted into a new family—the family of God—and we’ve been called to live like it.
That may sound like a heavy task, and it is. But the good news is that God doesn’t expect you to do it alone. He walks with you, empowers you, and gives you everything you need to live a new kind of life—one marked by grace, truth, and transformation.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” —2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)

Let’s Pray
Lord,
Thank You that I am not bound by the past or my current situation. Thank You that in Christ, I am a new creation. Help me break free from unhealthy patterns and walk in the freedom You’ve given me. Lead me to live as a child of God.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Ask God to show you any areas where you’ve believed a “curse” has influenced your life. Pray over them—declaring 2 Corinthians 5:17 as your truth. You are not stuck. You are made new. Tell others about how Jesus transforms lives.
Blessings In Christ,
