Anywhere with God

This weeks devo comes straight from Justin Penland, treasurer of Bibles of Baseball. Justin was saved over 25 years ago and explains that was a turning point in his life that began a journey of transformation that has taught him to rely more on Gods guidance and develop and deeper faith and a more personal relationship with Christ.

Anywhere with God

We often think of prayer as something reserved for quiet sanctuaries, folded hands, and bowed heads—but God never asked us to limit where or how we talk to Him.

In 1 Thessalonians, Paul reminds us to pray without ceasing.” That doesn’t mean we spend all day with our eyes closed and heads down. It means we live in constant awareness of God’s presence and keep the lines of communication open—wherever we are.

That includes the dugout.

A baseball dugout isn’t the quietest place. It’s noisy, filled with conversations, gear, and game-time adrenaline. But in the middle of the chaos, it can become a sacred space—a place where a quick prayer for courage, focus, or even gratitude can rise to heaven just as powerfully as one spoken in a church pew.

Likewise, sitting in a church pew might feel more necessary, more expected. But prayer doesn’t have more power there—it’s just another location where we’re invited to speak with our Father.

The truth is, prayer isn’t about the setting. It’s about the heart. God is just as close on a baseball field as He is in a Sunday service. When you whisper a prayer before stepping up to the plate or quietly thank Him after a strikeout, you’re living out 1 Thessalonians 5:17.

Let’s Pray

Father, thank You for always being nearwhether Im sitting in a pew or standing in a dugout. Remind me that You hear every word, every thought, and every need, no matter where I am. Help me to pray without ceasing, turning to You in every moment, both big and small.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

Share It

This week, challenge yourself—and your team—to pray anywhere and everywhere. Before the first pitch. After a tough inning. In the car. In the dugout. At the dinner table.

Let prayer become your natural response, not your last resort. Encourage a teammate to pray with you, or take a moment during practice or game day to invite God into the moment. You don’t need a perfect setting—you just need a willing heart.

Blessings In Christ,
Justin Penland, and the team at Bibles and Baseball
