The Only Way to Get Better

There’s a saying: “The only way to get better at baseball… is baseball.” No drills, BP sessions, or practice reps can fully prepare you for game day unless you’re actually playing the game. If you’ve spent any time with this sport—whether loving it or struggling with it—you get it. Baseball isn’t mastered in theory. To succeed, you’ve got to step on the field.

And stepping on the field takes commitment. Not just when we’re feeling good or when practice is convenient—but every day. Putting in the work is the only way to grow. Period.

Following Jesus and talking to Him in prayer is no different. We have to choose it daily—on the days we’re tired, distracted, overwhelmed, or just don’t feel like it. The only way to grow in prayer… is to pray.

At first, prayer can feel awkward. You might not know what to say. That’s okay. Do it anyway. Jesus tells us to pray, and He even teaches us how. But He never told us to be perfect at it.

Prayer doesn’t need to be polished. It doesn’t need to be long. Some of my most honest prayers are just one word—“Help” or “Thanks.” Prayer isn’t a performance. It’s a personal connection with God and a declaration of trust in His promises.

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:12 (NIV)

Let’s pray

Dear God,

Thank You for always hearing us and being faithful to Your promises. Forgive us when we fall short. Lead us, protect us, and help us stay close to You. Thank You for loving us with a perfect love we don’t have to earn.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Take a few minutes this weekend to encourage your team—and the parents around you—to make prayer part of their daily routine. Let them know prayer is an important way to stay connected to God.

Don’t be afraid to ask, “Can I pray with you?” or “Need help praying today?”

Then take the lead—and pray together. Simple. Real. Powerful.

Blessings In Christ,
The Team at Bibles and Baseball
