Sacrifice
This week’s devo comes from our very own Ryan Lawson, President of Bibles of Baseball. About ten years ago, Ryan’s life took a major turn when he realized that Jesus was pursuing him. Since then, after accepting Christ as his Savior and starting to walk with Him, Ryan says his life has been completely transformed—and now, his identity is fully rooted in Jesus.
Sacrifice
No one likes to make sacrifices. We all want what we want—when we want it. But life rarely works that way. At some point, we’re all asked to give up something we desire for something greater.
Baseball is a sport built on sacrifice. Plays are often made when a player gives up personal potential to help the team succeed. Sometimes, the best move a batter can make is a sacrifice. It’s not flashy. It might not even stand out in the box score. But a well-timed bunt or sacrifice fly can change the game—because it puts the team first.
That kind of selfless thinking reflects something even bigger. Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice when He laid down His life for us. He didn’t seek glory for Himself—He gave everything so that we could be forgiven of our sins.
As players, teammates, and followers of Christ, we’re called to do the same: to give up what we want for what others need.
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” — John 15:13 (NIV)
That might mean encouraging someone when we’re tired, sitting out so a teammate can shine, or serving without recognition.
Real strength isn’t found in stats or personal success—it’s found in love that lays itself down.

Let’s Pray Together
Dear Lord,
Thank You for Jesus, our Savior, who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our sins so that we may spend eternity with You. Please guide us as we learn to love others as Jesus has loved us. Forgive us when we fall short, and give us the strength and hope to try again.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
Time to Share
This weekend, when you’re gathered with teammates, friends, or family at the ballpark, share the perfect love of Jesus. Tell them that Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice so we could have salvation—and then go a step further: be an example of that love.
Set aside pride and self-promotion. Choose to love and serve those around you.
Blessings In Christ,
Ryan Lawson
