Overthinking
Reflection:
Yogi Berra, a legendary baseball player and Hall of Famer, is remembered not only for his skills on the field but also for his humorous and insightful quotes. One of his most famous lines is: “Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical.” (Source: MLB.com)
Anyone who has played, coached or even watched young athletes compete can appreciate Yogi’s message. Baseball is a game that demands just as much mental strength as it does physical ability. It requires focus, the ability to manage distractions, planning, reacting to sudden changes and coping with pressure.
Many young athletes have folded under pressure at the plate or on the mound, as coaches and parents encourage them to remember what they’ve learned in practice. Everyone watching wants the player to trust in their own ability and hard work.
The pressures and stresses of life can feel much the same. Sometimes, stress hits us all at once. Other times, distractions prevent us from focusing on what truly matters. And inevitably, the unexpected happens, leaving our thoughts spiraling.
It’s during these moments that God calls us to remember His Word and trust in His ability. Proverbs 3:5 says: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” God reminds us that He is capable—that He’s got this—and we don’t have to face life alone.
Philippians 4:6–7 encourages us: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
God—the Creator, our Holy Father, and our salvation—is the best coach, mentor and problem solver we could ever ask for. He invites us to bring every concern to Him in prayer, both big and small.

Let’s pray together:
Dear Lord,
We know that Your power is endless and beyond our understanding. We also acknowledge that we are limited in our own strength and wisdom. Your Word tells us that when we come to You—seeking hope, peace, help and guidance—You are faithful to respond. Please comfort us when we feel sad. Provide us with strength when we feel weak. Grant us skill and understanding when we feel inadequate. Thank You for Your constant provision, and thank You for Jesus, our salvation from sin.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
Time to Share:
This weekend, share the truth that comfort, hope and peace come through prayer and trusting in God. Remind your family, friends and teammates that we often feel stressed and overwhelmed when we overthink and believe it’s all up to us. The truth is, every care, worry and sorrow can be handed over to God—and in return, He gives us confidence, joy and peace.
Blessings In Christ,
